Swan Hill is a very nice little town.  We went to the Pioneer Village (you know how we like our old crap!!!) and we virtually had the place to ourselves.  It is not quite as big as Sovereign Hill, and it is based on agriculture, not gold, but still it was pretty good.   We got to see people making butter, (and then taste it with some fresh made damper), a ride in an old car and horse drawn carriage, saw lots of old (and big!!!) farming equipment.  We even had a chat to a lady sitting by a fire spinning wool.

Mildura was also a nice town.  It has one of the 15 locks on the Murray, and it was very interesting to see how they raise and lower the river to allow the boats through (3m drop).  Mildura also had an historical area with houses and shearing sheds which was good to stroll through.

We are now heading south for a bit, stopping at little towns as there are a few that are RV friendly with some nice camp spots in their towns.  The Silo Artwork is pretty amazing!!!!

The Murray River is very different from the last time (Murray Bridge to Renmark end).  The water is very low.  We were going to stop a while at Lake Malwala, but, every few years they drain the lake to clear out the weeds and it happens to be now.  It is amazing to see the lake drained.  All the tree stumps make it look like an atomic bomb has gone off.  Apparently it is a popular water skiing spot, not sure I would be using the lake for that after seeing what normally lies just below the water!!!!

One good thing about travelling along the Murray at the moment is that we appear to have all the free camps to ourselves.  It is a bit cool, admittedly, but it is still lovely.  The bird life is also thriving at the moment, lots of dead trees for them to nest in.  And the best bit - meeting up with friends!!  Glad we could cross paths Vicki.

We stopped in Echuca and had another trip up the river.  This time the boat was a bit more modern (aircon) but it was still a very pleasant way to spend an hour.

The little towns along the Murray seem to be catering for the nomads, providing free areas, or low cost rec reserves, in town.

Next stop, Swan Hill and Mildura. (civilization!!!!!)
