Port Denison and Dongara were lovely little seaside towns. We spent a few days there and then headed off to Geraldton. We had heard bad things about Geraldton from fellow travelers, but we found it to be quite nice. A typical industrial/port town. We stayed at a lovely caravan park, meet up with some friends, had a few drinks, had a few laughs. Quite an enjoyable time. The HMAS Sydney II memorial was pretty amazing. They had a big dome made from metal birds, one for each soul lost on the ship. Very moving.
After Geraldton, we stayed at Lynton Station. This is now a working farm, but it used to be an old Penal Hiring Station. Many of the old buildings are being restored and it was really interesting to walk through the old places and imagine what life must have been like. They did have a room in the old stables full of old crap - put our old crap to shame. Very tempted to fill my pockets!!!! The old homestead was perched on top of a hill and from the upstairs veranda there were magnificent views overlooking the current homestead/caravan camp and on to the ocean. You can also visit Pink Lake from here (about 5min drive). The lake was unfortunately pretty dry, but it did have a bit of tinge to it.
We are now in Kalbarri for a week, and it is such a pretty place. Beautiful beaches, national parks, amazing cliffs and some fellow QLDr's at the caravan park. What more could you ask for?
